Company

We're building the interface
we'd want for someone we love.

Lucen is an early-stage company working on non-invasive neural interfaces. We're small, we're technical, and we're focused on one thing first: giving speech back to people who've lost it.

“The future of human-computer connection shouldn’t require a scalpel. We’re building the one that doesn’t.

Non-invasive isn't only the kinder bet. It's the strategic one. An implanted device is gated by a neurosurgeon's calendar, a hospital's theatre schedule, and a regulatory path measured against the risk of opening someone's skull. Every one of those is a hard ceiling on how many people you can ever reach, and how fast you can learn.

Take surgery out and the shape of the problem changes. You can iterate in weeks instead of years, because improving the device doesn't mean another operation. You can reach someone who lives three hundred miles from the nearest neurosurgical centre. You can be worn by a hundred thousand people rather than a hundred, and the data that comes back makes the decoder better for all of them.

The trade is that the physics is harder. Reading through the skull has always meant a weaker, blurrier signal, and that is precisely the problem we exist to solve. We think it's the right hard problem to pick, and we'd rather spend a decade on it than build something only a handful of people will ever be able to use.

What we hold to

Three things we don't trade away.

Non-invasive or nothing

The constraint is the company. We don't have a surgical fallback plan, and we don't want one. If it can't be done from outside the skull, we haven't done our job.

Fidelity before features

Speech first, done properly, before anything else ships. A platform built on a signal that only half works is not a platform.

The user owns the signal

Neural data is the most personal data there is. We design as though that is non-negotiable, because it is.

Advisors

Clinical and scientific guidance.

Building something that goes near a person's brain, even from outside it, is not work to do without clinicians in the room. These seats matter to us as much as any engineering hire.

Careers

We're hiring.

Signal processing, machine learning, hardware, clinical. If you've been waiting for a reason to work on this, this is it. We'd rather hear from someone who cares about the problem than someone who ticks every box.
